Original WW2 WWII German M 42 Helmet that started as M 35 Africa - Italy. Has camouflage from Africa and then from Italy painted over original M 35 finish. The chin strap has been replaced. Information sent from eBayer Steve. It was never a M 42 helmet One major difference between the M 35 and the latter made M 40 and M42 is the air vents On the M 35 (pic #1) you can see the air vent is made from 2 rivets punched together so it stands out The M 40 and M 42 air vents (pic#2) were punched right out of the helmet shell The camouflage paint was one used in Tunisia and Italy.
It could well have began it's journey in the African theater' Pictures #3+4 is a helmet my father mailed home and it is a certainty it was worn in Italy by a German soldier Your helmet is a FS64 The FS means it was made by the Emaillerwerke AG company The number 64 is the shell size in centimeters. A M 35 camouflaged helmet is much more desirable than a M 42 helmet so you have a winner by being a M35 and Camouflaged best regards Steve.
