The user of this helmet survived and scrathed a word "Peace" (Rauha) with the date when winter war ended 13.3.1940 klo 11 with some artwork (flowers) on the shell. I will give his name for the new owner. He was older age, so he did not need to fight anymore during the continuation war 1941-44, so maybe this is the reason why this helmet is in remarkable condition and safe! The helmet is stamped B. 64/BW414N and on the neck has still visible "64" ink label. The liner has been intact 100 years. It has never been replaced because all the rivets are still very tight holding the liner band. All pillows are included with an original drawstring. Front pad is ok, but both side pads are not so good condition. Actually one side pad was almost off, so I have to glued it back and I have also fixed some more of those leathers with glue.
This helmet has a field modification chin-strap shortened by taking off shorter part of chin-strap. A very common field fix which I have seen with many Finnish WW2 era used M18 helmets. These WW1 era German helmets were the only combat helmets used by Finnish army during 1939-40 winter war.Today these winter camo helmets are extremely rare. I have owned some 200 original WW2 era Finnish helmets during last 20 years and I have had only three WW1 era German helmets with winter camo paints still on.
