This example is dated 1944 on the steel liner band (see photos) The German helmets lot number database claims that this serial number was a double decal SS helmet (DN496) (also see photo). This specific example has an incredible patina. The rough textured Field Grey camouflage paint has worn smooth from heavy use and dark, blued, rust-free steel is seen underneath- another quality aspect of Quist manufactured helmets - they can develop incredible patinas without corrosion. This helmet looks unbelievable on a bookshelf and is a serious conversation piece. The rust inside is just surface rust.
