WWII World War Two WW2 German Helmet M40 Complete

This is a WWII M40 German Helmet. The rough textured shell is spray painted field grey and shows some white paint and varnish transfer near the forehead and front split pins. The paint on the split pins matches the outer shell field grey paint. The inside flare is brush painted field grey and was possibly done at an equipment depot.

The brush strokes can clearly be seen and look to be carefully done. There are white spider poop spots inside the flare. The Lot # 0968 is difficult to read because of the brush over.

I can only see the top of what looks like a 9. I assume there would be a digit before the 0 too, but I cannot see any indication of that. Maybe there is a 1 under the paint, but impossible to see. I can clearly see the outline of it under the paint when looking at it close to a window.

The brown chinstrap is in good condition. It is still supple with aging consistent to the rest of the helmet. The liner shows damage and smells of old leather. An experienced collector will recognize what the liner damage is from.

All broken off leather pieces are still attached to the original string and fit the tongues like a puzzle. Some field grey paint can be seen on areas of the outer edge of the liner and color match perfectly to the paint brushed onto the inside liner flare indicating that this liner is likely original to the helmet.
