This sculpture was just one of many bringbacks owned by Steven Cernan Jr, a member of G Company, 179th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division. Cernan's unit was among the first to arrive in Munich at the end of the war, and actually set up their HQ in Hitler's Apartment on Prinzregentenplatz.
Accompanying this bronze is a 4-page, signed, document by Cernan, detailing this and his other finds removed from a wall safe in Hitler's office in the Fuhrerbau and a walk-in vault elsewhere in the building. These items included Hitler's christening cup, a cased hand-painted portrait of Hitler's mother, Gold Party Badge with serial #9, leather "Frieda Thiersch"-stamped desk set plus various other piecesincluding this exact bronze.
In a copy of the original paperwork, which will be provided to the new owner, this item is described as follows. Toga-clad male figure attempting to control rearing horse. (The original marble base was too heavy to carry). 11 inches high, including base. No sculpture's name observable. The statue has sustained some damage, including to the tips of the horse's front feet, and one of the rider's arms has broken away, but does slot back in and could very easily be repaired. The horse is also missing its tail.
