WW2 German LKp W100 Fliegerkopfhaube Winter Flight Helmet BATTLE OF BRITAIN

31217, as used by many German pilots throughout the early stages of WW2. During WW1, most pilots quickly realized the need for protective headgear due to the cold weather effects while in an open cockpit. As no headgear was readily available, pilots were forced to utilize commercially produced leather motorcycle and automobile helmets. During WW2, the German military produced approx. 10 variations of flight helmets for various operational conditions, as well as with or without radio communication equipment. This specific helmet was designed with radio equipment for fighter and bomber pilots.

Made of cotton and fleece, this helmet is in AMAZING used condition. There are no rips or tears, and the fabric is still very soft and supple. All snaps, tabs, and buckles work correctly, and there is NO corrosion on the steel fittings.

The interesting feature is that this is a RARER transitional mode, that features the 2nd type headphones, as opposed to the bakelite. All electrics are FULLY intact, including the helmet plug and throat mic! All straps are fully adjustable, and the data label is still intact indicating, LKpW100, Fl. It appears to be around a size 58, and features a PROMINENT BAL Stamp and Manufacture Date of 1 Feb.

This helmet remains in "slightly" used condition with a bit of wear and marks. The leather covers for the ear phones are also still fully intact! A HIGHLY sought-after piece, it would make a FANTASTIC and VERY RARE addition to any collection or display! Most of my items are vintage, and as such are AS-IS, so you must therefore expect a degree of wear due to age and/or usage.
